Our Mission

For more than 70 years, as a business providing medicines and other healthcare services our obligations to society were set in place by its founder, a physician who paid bus fare to patients so that they could afford to come back and finish their regimen of treatment. The bus fare often cost more than the medicine. Dr. Chai believed that we had a moral obligation to help people who were economically disadvantaged to access and afford our medicines. It is convenient for a pharmaceutical company to claim that by virtue of it manufacturing and supplying medicines it is doing good for the community; but the founder saw our responsibilities and obligations far beyond putting a medicine on the market. That continues to be the guiding light of the organization, overseen by the Berlin Sai Fon Foundation.

The Foundation regularly offers grants and donations to community projects where such contributions help institutions and civic organizations to better serve those economically disadvantaged.
The Foundation also supports education and training programs for new graduates in medicine, and continuing medical education for physicians and scholars. It also selectively supports conferences and seminars for physicians and pharmacists.
